For CATO participants only!
For non-geologists the Eifel is a nice and green hilly country site, where you can do some pleasant hiking around. For geologists this region is an area where the Paris basin meets the Rhine graben, where a hill could be the remains of a volcano, and where a lake might be the cover up of a magma chamber that could explode any moment with worldwide catastrophic consequences. For CATO researchers, this is the place where natural CO2 releases from the subsurface and we can learn on consequences of CO2 leakage. For everyone it is a nice place and a good reason to taste the famous Weiss bier.
This field trip will be held from 19-21 May 2011 and we like you to join us. At 10.00 hours the bus will leave from Utrecht to Buggenum, where you will be able to visit the Nuon pilot CO2 catcher at their coal power plant. After this visit the field trip will continue to the Eifel.
We expect that all CATO-2 PhD students participate in this field trip, but also other CATO-2 participants are most welcome. Please note that PhD students will be given priority!
