3.1 Geological models

Main objectives

This work package aims to gather all relevant and available data of potential storage sites (seismic, wire-line log and core data, sidewall samples), additionally acquire new data when necessary and create a database containing all this data. This will be done through investigating existing geological models of potential storage sites and where necessary modify and update them in order to get them up to spec for follow up work.
If not yet present, conceptual static high-resolution 3D geological models will be created
that show the size, shape, and spatial distribution of the reservoir rocks (i.e., reservoir architecture model) for potential storage sites. These models will serve as the starting point for all subsequent activities of the overall feasibility study.
Also up scaled models will be created from the geological models suited for flow simulations.

Data acquisition

The first step in the formulation of a storage feasibility study is the inventory of available sub-surface data sets. Subsequently the available data will be analysed. Based on this analysis a decision will be made whether complementary data acquisition is needed. The complementary data may comprise site-specific subsurface data and data acquisition in analogue outcrop settings. All available and relevant data will be stored in a database.

Models

In order to construct the framework of a first conceptual static high resolution 3D reservoir architecture model, analysis and correlation of all data sets will be carried out.
The model will be build in Petrel and will serve as a shared earth model, in which size, shape and spatial distribution of the target reservoir rocks are defined, as well as permeability, heterogeneity of tectonic and sedimentary origin, seal quality and overburden.
Finally a dynamic flow model will be created and when necessary updated by using the best suited up scaling techniques available for each specific property and type of sediment. Results from earlier simulations will be steering in this process.
