Research AreasThe CATO-2 research agenda is organised through five research areas, the so-called Sub Programmes (SP's). The sixth Sub Programme is responsible for coordination and communication. The Sub Programmes cover the whole CCS chain. Each of these Sub Programmes consists of several Work Packages to carry out the actual work. By grouping the Work Packages into Sub Programmes the scientific quality and internal cooperation is safeguarded.
The programme director, together with the fundamental research manager and the general applied manager, ensures the interaction between the separate Sub Programmes. CATO-2 ThemesSP 1 CAPTUREThe key objectives are: improving efficiency and economic viability and scale up of (new) technology SP2 CO2 TRANSPORT AND CHAIN INTEGRATIONImplementation of CCS requires the development of a major (inter) national infrastructure and the technical integration of the CCS chain. SP3 UNDERGROUND STORAGE, MONITORING AND VERIFICATIONCCS requires a sound monitoring and verification system. In this SP Storage capacity, conditions and availability of storage locations are assessed. SP4 REGULATION AND SAFETYLegal and regulatory frameworks are necessary on ownership and responsibilities of stored CO2, environmental impact requirements and transfer of responsibility as well as... SP5 PUBLIC PERCEPTIONCurrently, the general public's awareness of CCS is low. It is important to identify misconceptions on CCS which are shared by substantial parts of the public and to effectively... SP0B KNOWLEDGE: EDUCATION, DISSEMINATION AND TRANSFERThe aim of this part of CATO-2 is to coordinate and generate internal and external information flows of the programme. |
